Five traffic cops including a senior officer were injured when a lorry rammed into a roadblock monitoring the movement control order in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
In the 12.45am incident, a 45-year-old lorry driver lost control of the vehicle on the left lane and hit the cops who were in the midst of closing the roadblock along Jalan Syed Putra.
The victims were identified as Afifi Zulhusni Mohd Ali, Hairulnizam, Wan Kamarul Ariffin, Mohd Afendi, and Azri.
Afifi sustained injuries on the leg; Hairulnizam, Wan Kamarul and Azri were injured on their hands, while Mohd Afendi was injured on the head, shoulder, and leg.
KL police chief Zulkefly Yahya said they were in stable condition and discharged today after receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur hospital.
The lorry driver did not sustain any injuries but will be probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
Two police cars and a motorcycle was also damaged in the incident.
Police are holding regular roadblocks nationwide to ensure that the people adhere to the control order in the government's bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The order is in effect from March 18 until March 31 where people are advised to stay at home throughout the period. - Mkini
