Mat Sabu: Muhyiddin and Co won't find it easy to face the rakyat

Malaysiakini

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his cohorts in the new Perikatan Nasional government are not going to find it easy to face the people given how his administration was formed, said Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
As defence minister in the outgoing Pakatan Haparan government, Mohamad, or better known as Mat Sabu (photo), said he had received information about Muhyiddin's plans to establish a Malay-dominated cabinet.
"Harapan won the election but is now the Opposition, those who lost are now in control.
"This has never happened anywhere in the world except in my homeland of Malaysia," claimed Mat Sabu at a Harapan roadshow in Klang last night.
He said Muhyiddin and gang would not find it easy to face the rakyat that has been "awakened" by what has happened.
"We are not happy that the government was stolen halfway through its term. If we were not good, why not wait five years?"
Also present were PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP National Organising secretary Anthony Loke.
Mat Sabu added that Harapan would use the constitution and seek legal redress in its attempt to restore the government formed at the ballot box in May 2018.
On March 1, Muhyiddin was appointed the eighth prime minister to replace Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The collapse of the Harapan administration was precipitated by Muhyiddin leading Bersatu out of the coalition, in collusion with a group of PKR MPs led by former party deputy president Azmin Ali.
Muhyiddin has now formed the Perikatan Nasional government with the support of Umno, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and other smaller parties.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin, in his speech, said he sympathised with Muhyiddin — a recovering cancer patient — who now had to mitigate the pressure of being prime minister.
According to Saifuddin, when he was in the Harapan cabinet, Muhyiddin frequently missed the weekly meetings.
"I feel sorry for him. When we used to have cabinet meetings four times a month every Wednesday, Muhyiddin would only attend one meeting in a month and miss the other three.
"He's a cancer patient, and I sympathise with him. The first challenge he will face is to eliminate the perception that he is a traitor," Saifuddin said.
He added that betrayal was a difficult thing to cope with. - Mkini
