CORONAVIRUS | Food trucks are no longer allowed to operate throughout the movement control order period which ends on March 31.
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said this is as food trucks tended to attract large crowds, which defeats the order's goal of curbing the spread of Covid-19.
"At first it was allowed because customers would be taking away (their order).
"But our observations found that food trucks in the Federal Territories operate in groups... causing there to be a big crowd," he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said the food truck operators have agreed to cooperate, for which he is thankful.
The movement control order period is meant to prevent new infections of Covid-19 in an effort to stem the rising number of cases.
The public is allowed to go out and buy food, but only to take away. Food delivery services are also available.
Those not working in essential services are encouraged to stay home.
