Putrajaya has sacked Hasnita Hashim as Mara chairperson as well as several other professionals on the agency's council.
Their termination letters were received today, according to Focus Malaysia.
Hasnita is the Maybank Asset Management Group chairperson and Maybank group board member.
Other Mara council members dismissed were Jamelah Jamaluddin, Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, Ameer Ali Mydin, Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, Zakri Mohd Khir and Ahmad Baslan Che Kassim.
The report, citing people familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the corporate figures were dismissed as they were seen as "political appointees" of the previous Pakatan Harapan government.
However, contrary to the claim, the report said the individuals had actually been vetted by the now-defunct Council of Eminent Persons led by former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.
It was part of a plan to enlist corporate experts to restructure Mara.
Mara falls under the Rural and Regional Ministry led by Mersing MP Abd Latiff Ahmad, who had defected from Umno to Bersatu. - Star
