Rapid cuts public transport services in KL and Penang

PETALING JAYA: RapidPenang and CAT free bus services as well as Penang ferry services are being curtailed from today to ensure the public adheres to travel restrictions of the movement control order.
Light rail and bus services in the Klang Valley will also suffer reductions in service from Wednesday, RapidKL announced.
RapidKL said train services on the LRT, MRT and monorail lines will be in operation only from 6am to 10am, and then from 5pm to 10pm. On weekdays, they will run every 10 minutes from 7am-9am and 5pm-7pm, and at half-hour frequencies at other times. On weekends, they will run at half-hour frequencies.
The last train will end at 10pm, and all stations will be closed.
Beginning Wednesday, all stage buses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuantan and Kamunting will be in operation only from 6am to 10am, and then from 5pm to 10pm.
The Penang ferry service will have one ferry every hour between 6am and 10am; and between 5pm and 10pm.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the RapidPenang bus services in Penang would be reduced by 70% from today, while CAT and ferry services would also be made less frequent.
He also urged the public to reduce movements outside the home and to use delivery services when buying necessities.
“The present situation is very worrying, so do not be stubborn … Strictly adhere to the Movement Control Order. Otherwise, the period may be extended and we will face more difficulties. We have to prepare for the worst,” he said.
He denied allegations that the failure of the public to obey the restrictions showed the weakness of the Pakatan Harapan administration. Chow said he was not interested in politicking with regard to Covid-19. - FMT
