Sabah calls for suspension of gatherings involving more than 50 people

Sabah’s state secretary has asked the people to abide by the standard operating procedures announced by the health ministry.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has called for the suspension of gatherings involving more than 50 people in the state to be suspended in the wake of the confirmation of its first Covid-19 case yesterday.
State Secretary Safar Untong also advised those with meetings scheduled outside Sabah to meet through video-conferencing or other means of digital communications.
Listing several guidelines for the public and private sectors, Safar said they were reminded to abide by the standard operating procedures announced by the health ministry.
He reminded the people to observe personal hygiene and to practise social distancing of at least 2m from another person if they exhibited symptoms like fever, coughing and breathing difficulties.
He said they should avoid shaking hands for now.
“The public is also advised to temporarily put on hold their overseas travel if there are no pressing issues.
“They are urged not to visit places including other states in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
Safar also advised those who had attended the tabligh event at the Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur to contact the nearest health facility.
Sabah registered its first Covid-19 case yesterday after Health Minister Dr Adham Baba announced that a 58-year-old man from Tawau was among three people who tested positive for the coronavirus after attending the tabligh from Feb 27 to March 1. - FMT
