KOTA KINABALU: There is no guarantee that the new Federal Government under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will stabilise if Parti Warisan Sabah shifts its political stance and supports Perikatan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
The Sabah Chief Minister, who is Warisan president, said this to reporters when responding to opposition Parti Bersatu Sabah president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili’s call for Warisan to reconsider its stand and support the Perikatan government.
“Why do we have to rethink?
"I do not want the (national) political illness to spread to Sabah. We should not place importance on position and rank, ” he said after launching the Sabah Health Carnival organised by the Health Department here on Saturday (Mar 7).
“I do not want to follow the political waves happening there. We have to stop this culture of jumping from one party to another.
“We must have strong values in what we do and what we stand for, ” he said, adding that within just a day, some politicians jumped four times amid the political uncertainties and impasse in the country.
He said Sabah, under the Warisan coalition government, was stable and had already worked with the former Pakatan Harapan government on development plans that were being put in place, which hopefully would bear fruit in a year or two.
Shafie said the state would continue work and cooperate with the Federal Government for the benefit of the state and the country.
“We already have an established working formula with the Federal Government and their agencies here. We have to work with them.
"What is important is for us to work for the people and country, not personal politics, ” he added.
On state rights negotiations with the Federal Government, Shafie hoped that it would continue as Muhyiddin was part of the Pakatan Harapan Cabinet that agreed on various matters for implementation.
Warisan, which was Pakatan Harapan-friendly, has decided to stick with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and not shift support to Perikatan. - Star
