CORONAVIRUS | The Selangor state assembly meeting might be adjourned tomorrow following the federal government's announcement of a movement control order.
State assembly speaker Ng Suee Lim (photo) told Malaysiakini the assembly sitting would continue tomorrow morning but the lawmakers may propose to adjourn the sitting.
“I think both government and opposition parties assemblypersons will consent that the sitting should be adjourned.
“So, tomorrow may be the last day of the assembly,” Ng said.
The speaker assured that the assembly will follow the movement control order from the federal government.
Early this morning, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had officiated the new Selangor state assembly sitting for the year.
However, the parade and guard-of-honour inspection in conjunction with the opening of the 14th state legislative assembly were cancelled.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the cancellation was made at the behest of Sultan Sharafuddin to shorten the opening ceremony and prevent a mass gathering.
The assembly sitting was initially slated from March 16 until 28. - Mkini
