Set limit on purchases, PH tells govt

Panic buying, or the purchase of goods in bulk, began even before the government announced its movement control order.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged the government to place a limit on the purchase of basic necessities at supermarkets to ensure enough supply for everyone in the wake of the movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In a statement, the PH secretariat council said the government should enforce a purchase limit under the authority of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry.
Alternatively, it said, supermarkets could place such limits themselves.
Its statement follows reports of panic buying and profiteering due to the MCO which will be in force until the end of the month.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba announced yesterday that two Covid-19 patients had died as the number of cases rose to 673.
The first death, Case 358, was a 60-year-old pastor in Sarawak whereas the second casualty was a 34-year-old who attended the Sri Petaling mosque tabligh convention late last month. - FMT
