Claims that cabinet ministers being indifferent to the Covid-19 outbreak was untrue as all of them are working on the matter, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri, who is also a coordinating senior minister.
"On the part of the ministers, we are meeting daily, we are not ignoring what is happening.
"The accusations that ministers don't care is slander. Every minister is providing the latest report for their respective ministries on the Covid-19 issue," he told a press conference that was streamed live on Facebook.
Ismail said several ministers have engaged their Singapore counterpart on the status of some 300,000 Malaysian workers there following the movement control order coming into force yesterday.
The order disallows Malaysians from leaving the country nor foreigners coming in, which has posed a problem for Malaysians who commute to Singapore daily for work.
Ismail said the government is negotiating to allow Malaysians working in Singapore to leave for the city-state during this period on condition that they will remain there.
"This is under discussion, and God willing, we will make an announcement soon," he said.
He also conceded that the first day of the movement control order yesterday had been plagued with confusion.
"We know yesterday there was a lot of confusion so apart from the National Security Council's hotline, all ministries have been asked to start their respective hotlines.
"Any issues concerning their ministries can be directed to the respective ministries so that the response can be clearer," he said, adding that the hotlines for the different ministries will be publicised soon.
He added that the government has also agreed to postponed repayment for the Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN) loans during the Covid-19 crisis but said the Higher Education Ministry will provide more details.
