The Dewan Rakyat sitting scheduled to start on March 9 will be postponed, says a source with knowledge of the matter.
“It will be postponed... the postponement will allow for cabinet ministers to be appointed.
“There are also a few things which need to be sorted out.
“Questions for this Parliament sitting were submitted earlier so time is needed to alter the order paper and also the questions will now be answered by new cabinet ministers,” said the source.
The next planned date for the sitting was initially set for March 23, but that was supposedly not agreed upon by the new Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“He has to consult with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong first as the Agong has to officiate on the first day,” the source added.
Malaysiakini has attempted to contact the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof (above) for confirmation on this matter.
There had been speculation that the March 9 Dewan Rakyat would be postponed following the appointment of Muhyiddin as prime minister on March 1 after a week of political turmoil.
Mohamad Ariff had yesterday said he would write a letter to Muhyiddin on whether the Dewan Rakyat’s sitting on March 9 would be postponed. - Mkini
