Stop! Cops on patrol get pulled over... for a treat

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The cops are out in force on the streets, setting up roadblocks and flagging people down to ensure that they do not go out unnecessarily and abide by the movement control order.
But last Friday, one entrepreneur reversed roles and flagged down a police patrol car instead. The purpose: to pay respect to the frontliners by giving them a meal.
"For the first time in my life, I stopped a patrol car, asking them to pull over," Norman Shah Abdul Aziz posted on Facebook.
The roasted duck seller said the officer had a puzzled look when he stepped out of the car and was surprised when he was given a meal.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Norman said the incident, which happened in Damansara as he was making deliveries, was both humbling and amusing.
"Normally they're the ones pulling me over, now I'm pulling them over," the 44-year-old quipped.
He said he had also made a delivery to a police roadblock near the Subang Jaya Medical Centre that day.
Norman said he felt compelled to provide meals to the police to pay tribute to frontliners, as well as for being grateful that he was fortunate enough to have customers ordering food despite the MCO.
"So we wanted to share our rezeki (good fortune) with the frontliners.
"Other people are safe at home, but they're risking their lives out there... I have nothing but the utmost respect for them," he said.
Norman's story is one of many uplifting tales during the two-week MCO.
Last Saturday, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah also personally cooked meals for health workers at the Sungai Buloh Hospital and the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya.
There are also multiple on-going efforts to provide medical frontliners with personal protection equipment (PPE) as supplies run low in their effort to screen and treat Covid-19 patients.
The MCO is meant to prevent new infections of Covid-19 by waiting out the virus' two week incubation period.
However, the public can still go out to buy food and groceries, or have it delivered to them.  - Mkini
