TABLIGH ORGANIZER CAUGHT RED-HANDED TELLING LIES – AGAIN? CLAIM OF ONLY 500 ATTENDEES LEFT TO BE SCREENED DEBUNKED – AFTER MINISTER REVEALS COPS HAVE IDENTIFIED 8,800 SO FAR BUT YET TO SEND THEM FOR COVID-19 SCREENING

Nearly 9,000 tabligh attendees identified, says senior minister

POLICE have identified close to 9,000 individuals who attended a tabligh gathering in late February, senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
Ismail Sabri said police are locating the 8,800 individuals who attended the gathering at the Sri Petaling Mosque and will take them to hospital for screening if they refuse to cooperate.
“Police have identified the individuals who have yet to go to the hospital.
“These people are not only risking themselves but also their family members.
This means official figures of untested tabligh participants are higher than claimed by Sri Petaling Mosque committee member Abdullah Cheong, who said only 500 tabligh participants have yet to check themselves at the nearest hospitals.
In a statement, the leadership of Markaz Dakwah dan Tabligh Malaysia said the data was collected from the tabligh logistics division, who concluded the figure based on food and accommodation provided for the participants.
Meanwhile, Ismail urged undocumented migrant workers and refugees who attended the tabligh gathering to get screened.
He assured them that they will not be arrested and only checked for Covid-19.
“Do not be afraid as we are not focused on making arrests or their documentation. We are only focused on tracing those who had been to the event.
“All we want to know is if you are carrying the virus or not. The worse scenario is that you will be quarantined.”
Malaysia has now recorded nine Covid-19 deaths, out of 1,183 infections.
Majority of the deaths are from the tabligh cluster.
The ninth death, announced earlier today, is of a doctor with the Health Ministry and is the first healthcare provider to succumb to the coronavirus.
The 48-year-old doctor had a history of travelling to Turkey,
Worldwide, a total of 275,577 cases have been reported with the death toll surpassing 12,000.

Tabligh organisers say 12,500 attended event, not 16,000

PETALING JAYA: The organisers of the tabligh gathering in Kuala Lumpur have disputed the number of attendees at the event held during the Covid-19 outbreak, which has seen the death of three men linked to it.
Earlier reports had put the figure at 16,000 but one of the organisers, Abdullah Cheong, said the actual figure is about 12,500.
Of the total, Malaysians make up about 11,000, he told Bernama.
“The 12,500 figure is not something we came up with but is based on data of attendees we registered on an annual basis,” he said
The tabligh gathering, held at a mosque in Sri Petaling, took place from Feb 28 to March 1.
Abdullah said the number of participants was also derived based on the mosque’s layout and capacity, after taking into account walk-ins by local participants not required to formally register.
Earlier this month, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that the attendance was as high as 16,000 people.
Abdullah also said that of the 11,000 Malaysians present, 500 had yet to be screened.
He refuted a claim that thousands of Rohingya migrants had attended the event, saying only 200 turned up, in addition to about 150 Myanmar nationals.

The three men who died, aged 34, 50 and 58, had attended the gathering, which has resulted in a high number of confirmed cases linked to it. FREE MALAYSIA TODAY
