Yoursay: The day the politicians stole the country

Malaysiakini

YOURSAY | ‘Marina, this wretched day would not have dawned upon Malaysia had your father loved this country…’
Anonymous_7180953: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad could have just given PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim a date and all this would never happen.
He never wanted Anwar to be prime minister from day one. This is only about a man who would not honour his promise to a person he hurt, imprisoned, tortured, humiliated and nearly destroyed his family and, despite that, Anwar forgave him and let him share power.
This is betrayal.
Mano: Why did Mahathir encourage former PKR deputy leader Azmin Ali? Why did he not make the transition clear and a set a handover date?
Whether Anwar is capable or not after taking over, it is the rakyat's problem. They voted on May 9, 2018 on that promise. Marina Mahathir, that is not for your dad to meddle with.
Meddle in he did as he had muddled up the whole country. It looks like the alleged rogues, thieves and looters from Umno, MCA, MIC and PAS are going to have a field day.
Sorry, your dad was never sincere on too many instances.
Antiracial: Marina, we went to the streets since 2008 and fought the corrupted government and handed it over to your father. He lost the government due to his greed.
Now you are asking us to protest again to fight and hand over the government to your father?
Life: I can understand as a daughter you want to see the best for your dad, but Mahathir, oh, Mahathir, you were already the seventh PM and you resigned, and then offered yourself to be the eighth PM. This makes no sense.
Anwar urged you not to resign (during his discussions with you) and yet you went ahead to resign (which triggered the opportunity for Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin), and then you offered yourself to be the next PM.
Why on Earth would you do that? It really baffles me. I can only assume that you thought you could force Pakatan Harapan to support your unity government idea. This time Mahathir got everyone burnt.
Harapan can never support you in this unity government idea because it is not the mandate given by Malaysians in GE14 – it would be a betrayal of the mandate given to Harapan. You have to understand and get this in your head.
Lastly, you should have attended the Harapan presidential council meeting on Feb 28 and have that discussion – they gave you the respect and invited you. But no, you did not. Again, this baffles me. Why?
It is only today that you come out and say this and that as a result of your Bersatu meetings. Yes, you can say Muhyiddin betrayed you and, for the record, he not only betrayed you, many Malaysians feel Muhyiddin has betrayed them – all those who voted for Harapan in GE14.
But please do not say Anwar wanted to be the PM candidate and that’s why you didn’t get the numbers – that is an unfair and an incorrect statement.
This is a grave and expensive lesson for all but, having said all this, Harapan is still the choice of the majority of Malaysians. So, please let go of whatever mind games you have up in your head and work with the Harapan partners openly and sincerely.
Harapan has to be the government again. Too much is at stake for Malaysia and Malaysians. It is a nightmare to even think that the corrupted kleptocrats can go scot-free and be part of the government machinery.
March 1 was indeed a devastating day in Malaysian history. May God save and bless Malaysia.
WayangMalaysia: While I may not agree with everything Mahathir did, I shall still support him to lead the fight against this new Perikatan Nasional government that are mainly from the past regime kleptomaniacs, racists and bigots.
Remember how we did it at GE14, we needed him to lead then and we need him even more than ever now as there are at least two more traitors in the midst.
Mvarughi: Bravo Marina. Keep it up. The people are with you. Although we had our doubts on Mahathir's role in the crisis, the events of the past two days seem to have absolved him as a party to the treachery. It was the turncoats from PKR and the traitors from Bersatu who planned and executed everything.
As it stands today, if Mahathir continues to stand with Harapan and continues to work with Anwar, a Dr M-Anwar team return to power sooner than later.
OrangTua: My question to Marina is, does your father love the people of this country? People of every race? Of every religion?
You cannot say he loves this multiracial country if he only loves one race, if he only respects fellow Muslims.
Marina, this wretched day would not have dawned upon Malaysia had your father loved this country by loving its people first - regardless of race and creed.
It is this love that would have kept his arrogance and condescension in check. It is this love that would have made him work for justice and fairness for all races.
It is this love, Marina, which would have inspired other MPs to give their best to the people they serve, while serving as a powerful warning to politicians not to try and steal this nation for themselves.
We have come to this black day simply because your father loved himself more than he loved us Malaysians.
Musang Queen: I believe you, Marina. I was born when your dad was PM in the 90s, I have always admired him for his leadership qualities, political acumen, grit, and wit.
There hasn’t been another like him in Malaysia in that regard. Despite what he has said and done to us non-Malays, I stand by my adulation (though contrary to the worldview I’ve come to have).
But here’s the thing, we, the rakyat, trusted your dad to vacate the PM post for Anwar as he promised to do. Yet, he, by his own admission, was letting a coup happen as long as it fits his worldview or his idea of how the country should be governed. Against and in contrast to the people’s will. As though he knows better.
He showed us that our hope and our views matter less than his beliefs. That cannot be forgiven, and I hope he fixes this. Wishing good health to Mahathir, Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and your family. - Mkini
