CORONAVIRUS | Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have open a total of 264 investigation papers on alleged false news pertaining to Covid-19 to date, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said.
Of this, he said 177 cases are still being investigated, 30 were charged in court, 11 have been issued warning notices and 18 resulted in guilty pleas.
“The public is asked to be careful when spreading information with doubtful veracity, and they can check the facts through the Sebenarnya.my portal. Remember, if you are not sure, don’t share,” Ismail (photo) said during his daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
Meanwhile, he said police arrested 10 people yesterday for not complying with the conditional movement control order (MCO), which has been in effect since May 4.
This, after stating that the conditional MCO compliance task force has conducted 62,656 inspections nationwide to enforce the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government during the order period.
During the press conference, Ismail also warned Malaysians that the government would consider reinstating the full MCO, which entailed almost full shutdown of all but essential work, travel and services if it was felt the SOP was not being adhered to.
Under the conditional MCO, the government has permitted businesses, most sports and social activities to resume after almost two months of the MCO, albeit under strict conditions.
Any activities involving a large gathering of people, close bodily contact and inability to maintain social distancing are not permitted. - Mkini
