Perikatan Nasional member parties enjoy a harmonious relationship and thus there is no need to rush the formalisation of the coalition, said BN secretary-general Annuar Musa.
During a press conference today, Annuar (above, centre) said the grassroots must first be consulted on proposals to have the coalition formally registered.
"Discussions and ties between the PN parties are very harmonious. This harmony needs to be maintained.
"Therefore, there is no need to rush. Every party has its own procedures.
"This process (of decision making) cannot happen at the top alone," he told reporters at the Umno headquarters today.
In the case of Umno, Annuar said that the formalisation of this new coalition needs to be discussed at the party's national delegates meeting.
Umno is officially a member of two coalitions - BN and Muafakat Nasional. The latter pact took months of discussions and was eventually formalised on Sept 14, 2019.
On May 6, Malaysiakini reported that the Umno supreme council had unanimously rejected proposals for the party to join PN officially.
Annuar said there was no timeframe to decide whether to formalise PN.
"What is important is that there must be ongoing discussions.
"It is not that there will be an election any time soon. We will do things step-by-step," he said. - Mkini
