Bersatu youth chief admits party inexperienced in elections

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal admitted there were indeed weaknesses in the party as revealed by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu earlier today.

In fact, Wan Fayhsal said the weaknesses were also identified as key challenges for the party's youth wing, known as Armada, that he leads.

"True, these are primary challenges faced by Bersatu, not only at the central level but also the youth wing. Most who joined the party had no prior political experience in other parties.

"Armada members are mostly first-timers. Even myself, it was my first time signing up for a political party," he said.

"So we are inexperienced, have limited knowledge, but experiences we went through in Sabah and Malacca will make us more mature," he said.

Wan Fayhsal was speaking to reporters after his policy speech at the Bersatu Youth annual general meeting (AGM) in Kuala Lumpur today.

Faizal, in his speech to launch the party's AGM this morning, highlighted weaknesses that hampered Bersatu, leading to the party only winning two of 15 seats it contested for in the Malacca state election last month.

Faizal said among the weaknesses included the party's machinery that often played up mistakes made by other parties.

Aside from Bersatu, Perikatan Nasional components PAS and Gerakan lost in all the seats their candidates were fielded in.

However, Wan Fayhsal, who is also a federal deputy minister, said the Youth wing is ready to admit and learn from past mistakes.

"We will improve. We do not want to blame any parties.

"Most importantly, we know that for us to remain relevant in the next general elections, Armada must have a dedicated strategy," he said. - Mkini
