Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie was in an ebullient mood at the 46th Wanita MCA annual general meeting, lauding the party's performance in the recent Malacca polls and speculating if the party could return to its past glories.
Citing last month’s Malacca election, she said the party's mobilisation during the state polls truly embodied the "one for all, all for one" spirit.
"In three to five days, we finished our phone surveys for 28 state seats. On behalf of the party, I would like to extend my highest respect to all our sisters - thank you sisters for your hard work. We’re lucky to have you.
"The Malacca state election was unprecedented and the chief culprits were four political frogs. As such, I want to express my gratitude to the voters, not because BN won 21 state seats, but for utilising your votes to punish the political frogs and the political parties that accepted them.
"This is a great cautionary story, creating a deterrent," Heng said in her speech today.
She added that this should make frogs think twice before hopping again and the effects should last till the next general election (GE).
"MCA is our home, whether in the next GE we can win back what we lost, that depends on everyone."
In the 2004 national polls the party picked up 31 seats, but now just has two.
End party-hopping, racial division
Heng urged the government to quickly pass the House of Representative Recall Act before GE15 as proposed by MCA to eradicate the culture of party-hopping once and for all.
"Without legislative measures, frogs will definitely resurface. A change of three prime ministers within 42 months and the Sabah and Malacca state elections are such examples," she said.
She also blasted former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's recent comment on chopsticks, saying that there was no need to seek the approval or acceptance of others.
"His remarks not only expose his discrimination against the Chinese but also a wild ambition to assimilate everyone.
"It is also in violation of Articles 10 and 152(1) (a) of the Federal Constitution that provides the rights and freedom to mother-tongue education and lifestyle for every ethnicity," she added.
Heng also said that since the founding of Malaysia, BN has always advocated harmony between each race instead of assimilation.
"Find common ground amidst our differences, and form a symbiosis. Combine the strengths and resources of all ethnicities for shared prosperity.
"Due to our multi-stream education system, many Malaysians can generally utilise numerous languages, the world recognises our proficiency in multilingualism and it’s our advantage in international business," she added. - Mkini
