He said the government was aware of the extent of damage caused by the ongoing massive floods that hit several states.
The government will also contribute RM1,000 for each household affected by floods, he added.
“In September this year, the government had raised compassionate aid to RM1,000 per household and we will expedite the payments to areas affected by the floods such as Selangor and six other states,” he said.
The prime minister was speaking to the media after chairing a special meeting on plans and actions to be taken to manage the floods.
"The government agrees to give unrecorded emergency leave to civil servants affected by floods.
"Private companies are also advised to approve emergency leave without deducting salary, annual leave of affected employees," he said.
Ismail Sabri said that the number of flood victims at 103 relief centres in Selangor alone had risen to 15,000 today.
He added that there was a need for a Health Ministry team at each temporary relief centre.
Earlier today, he asked the Social Welfare Department to make sure that every flood victim is being facilitated and receives the assistance channelled to them.
In a Facebook posting, Ismail Sabri shared a video of his visit to the temporary relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Johan Setia in Klang today.
“It upsets me to see the many flood victims taking shelter at the SK Johan Setia in Klang. As of today, 690 victims are being housed at the centre and I managed to meet some of them, including the elderly, persons with disabilities and children.
“And I have asked the Social Welfare Department to ensure that every victim is being facilitated and receives the assistance channelled to them,” he said. - Mkini
