Thumping win for GPS in late Mulu results gives coalition 76 out of 82 seats

The delayed result in the Mulu seat has been confirmed to be another convincing win for GPS through its candidate Gerawat Gala, meaning that the coalition has snapped up 76 out of the 82 seats available.

The Election Commission had yesterday announced the results of 81 out of 82 seats, but postponed the result for Mulu seat due to safety factors, said its chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh.

He said that election officials, who needed to bring the ballot boxes to the official vote-tallying centre using helicopters, were faced with bad weather as well as an obstructed road network.

In the results announced Gerawat of GPS component party PBB won comfortably with 3,731 votes ahead of PSB's Prof Son Radu with 856 and PKR's Roland Engan who won 810 votes.

Richard Ibuh of PBK finished fourth with 199 votes.

Gerawat's majority was 2,875 votes.

Some 5,802 were cast, with a voter turnout of 60.6 percent.

This means that the final tally for the 12th Sarawak General Assembly elections is GPS 76, PSB 4 and DAP 2. - Mkini
