JOHOR POLLS | MCA has singled out DAP's candidate for Johor Jaya Liow Cai Tung for a debate in Bahasa Malaysia.
This was after Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong yesterday claimed that his party's candidates were better than the MCA in every aspect, including their ability to speak the national language.
MCA's Johor Jaya candidate Chan San San said Liew's claim that at least 10 out of 15 MCA candidates aren't able to converse fluently in the national language without reading from a script was baseless.
"He is making spurious allegations and engaging in dirty tactics to sully his opponents," she said in a statement.
Chan said MCA candidates were picked through a stringent selection process.
She then proceeded to challenge Liow to debate in Bahasa Malaysia.
"Chan agrees that a leader needs to be fluent in Bahasa Malaysia in order to properly voice the concerns of their voters in the state assembly...
"Chan hopes that Liow will be courageous enough to accept the challenge to debate so voters can see DAP candidates' capability in speaking Bahasa Malaysia," MCA said.
The party also published a promotional poster announcing a debate between Chan and Liow at the Pasir Gudang MCA headquarters tomorrow (March 10).
The party previously also announced a debate between MCA president Wee Ka Siong and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Chinese education issues although the latter had not responded.
MCA eventually announced that a particular debate could not proceed as they were unable to receive police approval. - Mkini
