Covid-19 (March 30): 15,941 new cases, 33 fatalities

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 15,941 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,183,359.

Active cases currently stood at 206,592, down 30.3 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (7,748)

Kuala Lumpur (1,411)

Sarawak (974)

Kedah (827)

Perak (783)

Johor (778)

Negeri Sembilan (765)

Penang (684)

Pahang (487)

Terengganu (383)

Malacca (331)

Sabah (313)

Kelantan (297)

Putrajaya (66)

Labuan (61)

Perlis (33)

Another 33 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 11 were declared as “brought in dead”.

Over the past week, an average of 48.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 73, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 34,939 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 2,191 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 770 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,056 deaths per 1 million population, and is the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan - all in the Middle East.

The states with the highest death were Johor (6) and Kedah (6) followed by  Perak (4), Kuala Lumpur (4), Pahang (3), Sarawak (3), Penang (2), Selangor (2), Kelantan (1), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Sabah (1), .

There are 4,664 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 275 are in intensive care.
