PETALING JAYA: DAP Youth chief Howard Lee, who described Umno as a “damned” party (“parti celaka”), should apologise for his harsh language, Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan said today.
Shahril said that being an opposition assemblyman in Perak, Lee should be aware that he receives an equal allocation as those from Barisan Nasional (BN) from the state government, which is led by Umno.
“I want to remind the Pasir Pinji assemblyman that the party he calls damned and wretched gives an equal allocation to both BN and opposition assemblymen.
“The party you called wretched and evil, YB Howard, is the same that engages with the opposition for the Perak state budget,” he said.
In a video shared on social media, Shahril pointed out that the Perak government rewarded RM1,000 to civil servants in the state as a sign of gratitude for their services in fighting Covid-19.
“We are open to criticism against Umno and BN in this season of state elections. We understand this, but don’t use harsh language because not only does it offend BN voters, but Malays as a whole.”
The Umno Youth deputy chair was responding to a ceramah video which was posted on JohorKini’s Facebook page, where Lee had described Umno as “parti celaka” several times.
Shahril added that at the federal level, BN had pushed for an anti-hopping law to be tabled.
“The party he called evil and damned is the same that engages with the opposition in the country’s recovery programme too.”
Shahril then turned the tables on the opposition, questioning why certain court cases that involved DAP leaders were dropped when Pakatan Harapan was in power at the federal level.
“The rocket party that considers itself clean and fragrant (‘parti harum’) uses terms like ‘court cluster’ and so on, but it forgets that when it was in power, it ignored and dropped many cases.
“Lee seems to have forgotten this too, but the facts do not lie,” he said. - FMT
