Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he would continue to support party president Muhyiddin Yassin despite the latter’s proposal to resign after Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) dismal performance in the Johor polls.
“Muhyiddin’s fight must continue. I will continue to support his leadership.
“The entire leadership of Bersatu, at all levels, supports everything he has fought for,” he tweeted.
Last night, Muhyiddin, who is also the PN chairperson, said that he was prepared to step down if party members reach such a decision.
The fledgling coalition had contested in all 56 seats but managed to only win three – Maharani, Endau and Bukit Kepong.
Bersatu won two seats while PAS took one.
Responding to a question, Muhyiddin (above) said he assumed responsibility for the outcome and would honour the wishes of members if a leadership change is desired.
PN previously held 12 seats in the state, supporting the BN government, who only had 16 seats. - Mkini
