PETALING JAYA: The new cost of hiring Indonesian domestic workers will be announced after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesia is signed next month.
Deputy human resources minister Awang Hashim said the current hiring cost of RM7,800 was agreed upon by a joint working group in September 2013 under an agreement which expired three years later.
“The new MoU is scheduled to be signed by both countries in Jakarta in early April. The new hiring cost structure will be announced after this MoU is signed,” he was quoted as saying.
The deputy minister did not discount the possibility of an increase in the hiring cost, Berita Harian reported.
On March 23, Indonesian ambassador Hermono said the hiring cost of domestic workers from the republic had been capped at RM15,000. He said the cost will be borne by employers. - FMT
