Covid-19 (March 02): 115 deaths, highest in five months, 27,500 new cases

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 27,500 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 3,496,090.

Health authorities also recorded 115 new fatalities yesterday, putting the death toll at 32,942.

The latest deaths are the highest since Oct 7, 2021, when 132 fatalities were recorded.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 997 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The active cases increased by 27,500 to 321,037. In the last two weeks, active infections have climbed from 202,708 to 321,037, an increase of 58 percent.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Of the 115 deaths attributed to Covid-19 reported yesterday, of which 36 was declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 65 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 32, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

The state with the highest deaths was Johor (25), followed by Sabah (24), Selangor (18), Kedah (8), Negeri Sembilan (8), Perak (7), Pahang (6), Kuala Lumpur (6), Kelantan (4), Pulau Pinang (3), Melaka (2), Perlis (2), Sarawak (1), Terengganu (1), .

There are 8,182 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 360 are in intensive care. - Mkini
