Covid-19 (March 26): 20,923 new cases, 34 new fatalities

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 20,923 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,122,004.

Active cases currently stood at 242,487, down 25.1 percent compared to 14 days ago when it was 323,795.

Another 34 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which eight were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 67.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 74.3, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 34,751 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There has been 1,968 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 771 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,049 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The states with the highest deaths was Johor and Kedah which both recorded six deaths each. This was followed by Selangor (5), Perak (3), Penang (2), Pahang (2), Sarawak (2), Sabah (2), Terengganu (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Melaka (1) and Kelantan (1).

No deaths were reported in Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

There are 5,430 Covid-19 patients who were hospitalised, of which 302 are in intensive care. - Mkini
