JOHOR BAHRU: A voter in Larkin has been fined RM1,000 for going to a polling centre to cast her vote despite not having completed her quarantine period after testing positive for Covid-19.
A Johor Bahru health inspector issued the compound after checks on her MySejahtera found that it was still red when she went to the Kampung Melayu Majidee community hall polling centre this morning.
The woman in her 30s claimed she did not know that Covid-19 patients under quarantine were not allowed to vote, adding there was a misunderstanding after some friends told her she could cast her ballot.
The health inspector issued the compound and told her to immediately head back home.
The woman will be required to pay off the RM1,000 compound at the Johor Bahru health district office within two weeks.
She had gone to the polling centre with her mother but went back home alone.
Yesterday, the health ministry denied that it had issued a directive on the provision of voting channels in the Johor state elections for those who are Covid-19 positive, as had been reported in an audio clip that went viral on social media over the past few days.
In a Facebook post, the ministry urged the public to ignore the audio clip.
