DAP and PH must correct weaknesses, says Guan Eng

Lim Guan Eng said DAP and PH would continue to defend the people’s livelihoods by fighting rising prices.

PETALING JAYA: DAP and Pakatan Harapan (PH) need to fix their weaknesses, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng following the coalition’s loss in the Johor state elections yesterday.

“DAP and PH must correct their weaknesses, especially in communicating to the public a united opposition to Barisan Nasional (BN) under PH’s ‘big tent’ approach,” he said.

The final outcome of the polls saw PH winning only 12 out of the 56 seats in Johor. BN won 40 seats.

On his party’s performance, Lim said the good track record left by Tee Boon Tsong as Senai assemblyman had led the way to victory for his replacement, Wong Bor Yang.

“In Yong Peng, our candidate was too new, but Tee’s excellent service record in Senai helped our new candidate to win convincingly there,” said Lim.

Tee lost to MCA’s Ling Tian Soon in a three-cornered fight that also included Gerakan candidate Susan Yong in Yong Peng.

Lim pledged that DAP and PH would continue to defend the people’s livelihoods by fighting rising prices, rejecting taxes on foreign-sourced income and opposing the proposed excessive increases in compound fines for Covid-19 SOP violations. - FMT
