EC allows ceramah speakers to unmask during speeches

 

JOHOR POLLS | The Election Commission (EC) said it would allow ceramah speakers to remove their masks, but only for the duration of their speeches.

“After delivering their speech, (they) must put their mask back on without delay,” it said in a statement tonight announcing amendments to the Johor election SOPs.

Meanwhile, the new SOP no longer expressly forbids attendees of political party meetings from “any form of touching”, though shaking hands is still not allowed.

The new rules come into effect immediately.

For both types of events, attendees are still required to keep their masks on and constantly maintain physical distance of at least 1m apart.

The changes come a day after Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin recommended that the EC allow ceramah speakers to remove their masks during their speeches, on the condition that other precautions are still observed.

Polling day for the Johor state election is on March 12, while early voting is tomorrow. - Mkini
