KUALA LUMPUR: Issues related to the position of the Islamic development department (Jakim) and the total debt repayment of 1MDB and SRC International by the government will be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the order paper, the question on the position of Jakim will be raised by Abdul Latif Abdul Rahman (PAS-Kuala Krai) during the ministers’ question time. He wants the prime minister to confirm whether Jakim has been placed under the Conference of Rulers as reported in the media.

M Karupaiya (PH-Padang Serai) will also ask the finance minister on the amount paid by the government to settle debts related to 1MDB and SRC International, as well as the financial resources used.

Karupaiya also wants to know the total amount paid by each source, in whose name the payments were made, and the balance still owed to both companies.

During the question-and-answer session, Rubiah Wang (GPS-Kota Samarahan) will ask the domestic trade and consumer affairs minister to state whether there is a proposal to maintain the Keluarga Malaysia Sales programme, especially during the festive season.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) is expected to ask the human resources minister about unemployment of those aged 15 to 24.

He wants to know the government’s measures in addressing the problem, which is currently at 13.7% according to the November 2021 labour force figures compiled by the department of statistics Malaysia.

Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) will also ask the home minister whether there have been any deaths in immigration detention in the past five years, and the steps taken to investigate and prevent such incidents.

The House will later continue with the winding-up debate concerning three more ministries on the motion of thanks for the royal address.

The current meeting of the Dewan Rakyat will go on until March 24. - FMT
