PETALING JAYA: A state Umno leader has slammed PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah for saying that Singapore is more developed than Malaysia because it has never been ruled by Umno and its Barisan Nasional (BN) allies.
According to an Astro Awani report, Kelantan Umno youth chief Noor Hariri Mohamed Noor described Amar’s remarks as a “foolish joke”.
“Amar’s remarks at a ceramah show that he is desperate to find fault with Umno because he knows that Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) popularity has declined,” he said.
He pointed out that PAS had been governing Kelantan for over 30 years and yet the state was in a rut.
“Kelantan PAS has done a bad job in administering the state. In all these years, it failed to address issues such as clean water supply, the lack of job opportunities and investments, as well as the drug problem,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Amar, the Kelantan deputy menteri besar, had said that Singapore was more developed than Malaysia as it had never been ruled by BN.
“Which is more developed, Singapore or Malaysia? Surely it is Singapore. I’m sorry to be so direct in asking, but is Umno in Singapore? Is BN in Singapore? No,” he was quoted as saying by PAS organ Harakahdaily.
“This means without Umno, it is easier to develop the country, so much so that many Malaysians cross the Causeway every day to work in Singapore,” he said at a ceramah in Benut, Pontian. - FMT
