Muda to push manifesto promises whether in govt or opposition

JOHOR POLLS | Muda today unveiled its five-point Tekad Muda manifesto, offering solutions to address the issues of unemployment and affordable housing in the state.

Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the party's representatives promise to pursue their proposals whether as part of a new Harapan-led state government or as the opposition.

"This manifesto and Harapan do not have anything clashing with one another.

"The crux of it, for example on equal allocations for all Adun, anti-hopping law, I think these principles resonate in both Harapan and Muda manifesto," said Amira, Muda's candidate for Puteri Wangsa.

"If we're in government, we'll discuss whether to include our promises as part of the state's agenda.

"But at the same time, if we're in the opposition, we will push the government into addressing the issues," she said.

Muda's five main promises are:

1) Energetic and responsive leadership

2) Practise Pro-people democracy

3) Defend the middle-class (M40)

4) Bridge the income gap

5) Economic growth for all

Noting there are proposals made that would require long-term policy changes, Amira said Muda aims to ensure progress is made in the next five years.

Six of seven Muda candidates, with the exception of Tenang candidate Lim Wei Jiet, were present at Amira's operations centre in Puteri Wangsa, taking turns going through its five main promises.

Incentive for local companies hiring Johoreans

On the issue of housing, Muda's proposal includes for the new state government to enter negotiations with developers of unsold properties in Johor.

Muda's N22 Parit Raja candidate Fikri Musa said the proposal would see the state government buying unsold properties in bulk from private developers and reselling it to the public at a discounted price.

"We are targeting houses for those in the M40 and B40 categories," he said.

At the same time, Muda also proposed to impose a vacancy tax on properties left vacant or unsold for a period of time.

To tackle unemployment issues, Muda's candidate for Larkin Rasid Abu Bakar said the party has, among others, proposed an incentive for local companies hiring Johoreans.

He said priority could be given to qualified companies operating in Johor, including those involved in state government-linked projects.

Overall, Amira said Muda aims to improve the practice of democracy through the formation of a People's Council, seeking public engagement to assist elected representatives in making better decisions.
