Netizens hail ‘unsung heroes’ who braved KL floods

PETALING JAYA: Videos of people helping out during the flash floods over the past two days have gone viral on social media, with netizens lauding the unsung heroes for their selfless acts.

A video of a person on crutches helping to clear rubbish from a road was shared on TikTok yesterday, with the man also seen helping other road users gather their belongings from the ankle-deep floodwaters.

“He should be an example for all of us,” a TikTok user commented.

Several roads in the Kuala Lumpur city centre were submerged yesterday after a consecutive day of heavy rain.

Another video of a man using a stick to dislodge debris stuck in drains also went viral on WhatsApp and TikTok.

Pictures of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) workers from the health and environment department carrying out cleaning works in knee-deep floodwaters were also widely shared on Facebook.

“They should be given the highest bonus among all the other staff,” said a Facebook user, who commented on a photo of a worker trying to dislodge debris from a drain.

Many Facebook users also thanked DBKL for its quick action. “For KL folks, please respect them. Unsung heroes,” said one user.

Personnel from the fire and rescue department who helped to rescue people were not left out, with many hailing them on Twitter for their speedy response. - FMT
