No early dissolution - Harapan state govts to serve full term

The Pakatan Harapan-led state governments in Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan will serve their full term until 2023.

The coalition’s presidential council said it has decided today that the state governments would not recommend the early dissolution of their respective state assemblies and allow it to serve its full term in office.

“The decision was made considering the people’s economic situation that is still strongly affected by massive flooding, the Covid-19 pandemic, falling income, and a sharp rise in the cost of living.

“The presidential council emphasises that for the time being, every effort should be focused on saving the people and reviving the economy,” it said.

The joint statement was signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Wilfred Madius Tangau.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan made a similar statement earlier today regarding the PAS-controlled states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.

He said there is no need for state elections to be held there anytime soon, and the party has decided that its state assemblies would not be dissolved even if Parliament is dissolved. - Mkini
