PETALING JAYA: There was no ulterior motive behind Umno’s decision not to invite PAS representatives to the party’s annual general assembly, its deputy president, Mohamad Hasan, said tonight.
The Umno No. 2 said it was simply because there was limited seating due to the SOPs in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.
He said this when asked to comment on the absence of PAS representatives during the opening of the Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri annual general meetings at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur tonight.
“We did not invite anyone from PAS because of the space limitation and SOPs in place,” he told a press conference.
Asked about the relationship between Umno and PAS, Mohamad said there is still room for discussion.
“Muafakat Nasional (MN) is not over. But we (Umno) have to reiterate that we will only work with loyalists, not those who swim in two ponds and create further confusion among the public.
“We are also afraid that we will be left confused,” he said.
Mohamad also said a motion to expedite the next general election (GE15) may be proposed at the Umno Supreme Council meeting tomorrow.
Earlier in his speech, he stressed that the general election must be held as soon as possible, and not next year.
He said Umno must “strike while the iron is hot” and take advantage of the split among the opposition parties.
He added that it would also prevent the party from being turned into a scapegoat over the people’s suffering. - FMT
