Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has lauded the successful operating procedure at Kuala Lumpur's Tunku Azizah Hospital which saw a pair of conjoined twins separated at the age of 17 days.
The operation was led by the hospital's head of paediatric surgery Dr Zakaria Zahari.
"Congratulations to Hospital Tunku Azizah and the team led by Dr Zakaria as they created history when they did a successful separation of a 3.8kg conjoined twins at Day 17 of life," said Noor Hisham on Twitter.

He said it was the smallest and youngest in Twin Separation Surgery.

"The surgery had to be done urgently as the twins were exhibiting Extrauterine Twin to Twin transfusion, pushing one twin to develop Cardiac Failure.
"Alhamdulillah, the surgery went well, and the twins are now recovering in Neonatal ICU, HTA," said Noor Hisham.
Conjoined twins are two babies who are born physically connected to each other. - Mkini
