JOHOR BAHRU: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu says Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob agreed to allow ceramahs by parties campaigning in the Johor elections to run until midnight, instead of just 10pm, as previously stated.
Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Sabu, said Ismail agreed to this in a meeting with him and other Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, namely PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today.
He said Lim had asked for the SOP to be loosened slightly as the 10pm limit was too strict. He added that Ismail agreed and said he would bring this up at a Cabinet meeting on Friday.
“But Friday would be late. Being the prime minister, he can issue a directive immediately,” Mohamad told the audience at a PH ceramah tonight.
Based on SOPs released by the Election Commission (EC), ceramahs are capped at 100 people at any one time and limited to two hours. It also cannot go past 10pm nor be held in an open area. - FMT
