Police reporting system down nationwide for upgrades

The police’s system for handling police reports is currently down nationwide for upgrades, forcing officers to take reports from the public manually.

However, the Bukit Aman’s logistics and technology department deputy director (technical/operations) Shukri Abdullah said the disruption would be resolved soon. He also assured members of the public would still be able to lodge police reports as usual during this period.

“The police have manual workflows for ensuring that difficulties accessing the Integrated Police Reporting System (IPRS) would not affect the receipt of police reports.

“Members of the public who need to lodge police reports may still do so as usual at any police station counter,” he said in a statement today.

He was responding to messages circulating on social media claiming that the system had been down for days and the police were unable to receive reports as a result.

Shukri said the upgrade is being conducted in accordance with the system’s maintenance contract, and all branches of the police have been informed of this before work began in phases on March 19.

“An internal memo on this work was circulated to all police formations on March 15 so preparations can be made for the manual system to be used at whatever formation is facing difficulties accessing the IPRS during the maintenance period […]

“The appointment company is now configuring and troubleshooting technical issues arising from the large data migration process. Any difficulty in accessing the IPRS is temporary, and the entirety of the maintenance process is expected to be completed soon,” he said.

The upgrades ensure the police will be able to deliver the best service to the community, he added. - Mkini
