PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has confirmed that his party did not receive an invitation to attend the 2021 Umno general assembly taking place now.
However, Takiyudding (above) said this does not impact PAS and Umno's relationship in the federal government.
"PAS and Umno are still in the federal government. Our prime minister is an Umno MP," he said at a press conference in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today.
Umno looks set to push for a formal ending of ties with PAS at the general assembly as signalled by deputy president Mohamad Hassan and Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan.
This will put pressure on Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, whose faction makes up the majority of Umno ministers in government and have been resisting splitting up with PAS and Bersatu.
Umno and PAS were formally allies through the Muafakat Nasional pact but have since clashed at the ballot box.
However, Takiyuddin said PAS and Perikatan Nasional actually have no problem working with Umno.
Besides in Putrajaya, he said PN has exco members in the Umno-led Perak state government, while Umno also has a place in the PAS-led Kedah government. - Mkini
