Cops have reported the 13th death of a detainee who was in their custody this year.
The latest incident involves a 59-year-old man who was detained under Section 12(3) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1962.
The deceased was detained yesterday at the Seberang Perai district police headquarters in Penang and was scheduled to be remanded in court today.
In a statement, Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) deputy director Allaudeen Abdul Majid said that the detainee died at 7.30am this morning.
His cause of death remains unclear.
However, Allaudeen assured that JIPs will carry out a detailed investigation into the case.
The last custodial death was reported on March 8, involving an Indonesian man who allegedly died due to coronary artery disease. - Mkini
