Umno's top leaders take heed of grassroots’ wishes - Najib

Umno's top three leaders have complied with the wishes of party delegates related to the next general election, as reflected in their speeches delivered in the Umno annual general assembly, said Najib Abdul Razak.

The former premier said this when asked to comment on the winding-up speeches of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and party deputy president Mohamad Hasan on the final day of the Umno assembly.

"The speeches of the president, deputy president and vice-president take heed of the Umno assembly’s atmosphere and the wishes of delegates who wanted a consensus, by putting the interest of the party above other interests in determining an appropriate timing for the next general election.

"The second message is that we must be united as this is the prerequisite for our success in the next polls," he told the media after the AGM adjourned.

‘Umno takes care of the people’

Najib also commented on the positive government announcements made by Ismail Sabri earlier.

"If Umno is given power, it is not for the purpose of wanting to be in power alone, but we want to take care of the well-being of the people.

"With the additional announcement made by the prime minister today, it is clear that Umno is capable of leading the country towards a much better future," he added.

Among others, Ismail Sabri announced the implementation of a minimum wage of RM1,500 starting May, making it compulsory for foreign students to learn Malay and an act to freeze the accounts of men who fail to pay alimony to their former wives as decided by the court. - Mkini
