Unvaccinated arrivals subject to 5-day quarantine after April 1

 

The government has announced that it is reopening the borders on April 1 subject to SOPs.

PETALING JAYA: While the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19 will see the reopening of international borders, unvaccinated arrivals will still be subject to a five-day mandatory quarantine period.

Those who are fully vaccinated will not be required to quarantine, but will still be subject to existing SOPs like wearing face masks and physical distancing, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said in a statement.

Fully vaccinated arrivals who are undergoing quarantine will be released from isolation on April 1.

“For example, if an individual begins quarantine on March 29, the quarantine will end on April 1, 2022,” Khairy explained.

He said those under quarantine would be barred from dining-it at restaurants, as unvaccinated patrons are still not allowed under the current SOPs.

Until then, fully vaccinated travellers who have received their booster dose must quarantine for five days, while those without it must isolate themselves for seven days. Unvaccinated arrivals must remain in quarantine for 10 days.

Those under the age of 17 will not need to undergo quarantine regardless of their vaccination status but will be required to perform an RTK-Ag test within 24 hours of entering the country.

Khairy added that travellers exempted from receiving vaccinations due to health factors must upload proof of exception provided by a medical officer into the MySejahtera application.
