JOHOR POLLS | Wanita MCA’s chief Heng Seai Kie is undergoing quarantine at home after testing positive for Covid-19, the wing said in a statement today.
It said Heng is currently stable and has asked Wanita MCA vice-chairperson Lim Nget Yoon to lead campaign activities in southern Johor from March 9 to March 11.
According to the statement, Heng had campaigned for BN candidates with Lim from March 3 to March 6 in her capacity as BN’s election coordinator for the northern Johor region, in the constituencies of Tangkak, Bekok, Jementah, Bentayan, and Mengkibol.
As a precaution, she conducted RTK-Ag self-tests daily.
“All the results showed up negative except that on March 8 when she experienced Covid-19 symptoms of a cold and sore throat. She then immediately ceased all activities,” it said.
Campaigning activities in the ongoing Johor election have suffered setbacks on many occasions when campaigners and candidates contract Covid-19 and need to self-isolate. Many journalists covering the campaign trail have been affected as well.
At least four candidates have tested positive so far, namely BN’s Penggaram candidate Ter Hwa Kwong, PKR’s Bukit Batu candidate Chiong Sen Sern, PKR’s Gambir candidate Naim Jusri, and DAP’s Pekan Nanas candidate Yeo Tung Siong.
Polling for the election will take place on Saturday. - Mkini
