When is the right time for GE15, Tok Mat asks Tajuddin

 

Mohamad Hasan wonders whether Tajuddin Abdul Rahman knows better than the Umno grassroots on the correct timing for GE15.

PETALING JAYA: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has urged the party’s Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman to “enlighten” the people as to when the next general election (GE15) should be held.

“Is it the end of the year? Or do we wait for the current parliamentary term to expire, sometime after May 2023?” he told FMT.

“Since Datuk Seri Tajuddin says I am ‘pressuring’ the prime minister to call for GE15, perhaps he can advise all Umno members as to when we should have GE15.”

Mohamad said the grassroots, including the Youth and Puteri wings, had proposed that GE15 be held earlier, before the current Parliament terms ends in 2023.

“But it’s okay, maybe he knows better than the grassroots, so let him suggest the correct timing for GE15.”

Earlier this week, Tajuddin accused Mohamad of “pressuring” the prime minister to call for GE15 immediately at a time when the government was stable after the MoU signed with Pakatan Harapan last year.

However, Mohamad, commonly known as Tok Mat, denied this. He had said that the issue stemmed from his response to a voter’s question as to whether Umno would push for GE15 should it win the Johor elections on March 12.

Mohamad had said that GE15 should be expedited regardless of the outcome of the Johor polls as the current administration in Putrajaya was not chosen by the people and that the political instability in the country was affecting the people and the economy. - FMT
