PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli’s Ayuh Malaysia campaign launch yesterday could give an indication of who will be in the PKR vice-president’s team when he runs for the deputy president’s post in May.

A source told FMT that this included four leaders who will be vying for the vice-presidents’ posts — Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tanjong Malim MP Chang Lih Kang, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and former Kapar MP G Manivannan.

“Yes, those who were on stage with Rafizi are his lineup of associates who will be contesting in the PKR elections this May.

“The Ayuh Malaysia initiative is one of Rafizi’s campaigns for the election and is also in view of the 15th general election (GE15),” the source said.

While Nik Nazmi was not present at the event as he is overseas, he welcomed Rafizi’s campaign, which aimed to focus on five key policies — food security, renewable energy, vocational education, housing and education.

For a period of time, Rafizi and Nurul Izzah were especially quiet in the political arena following internal conflicts within the party.

In December 2018, Nurul Izzah stepped down as party vice-president, a post she won by gaining the highest votes among all candidates in the party polls.

Meanwhile, Rafizi chose to take a break from politics in 2019 despite being vice-president, though he recently announced his comeback by throwing his hat in the ring for the PKR deputy president’s post.

His Ayuh Malaysia campaign aims to win over voters who are sitting on the fence about the various coalitions contesting in GE15, with the launch lasting three hours and touching on issues like housing, agriculture and education.

PKR suffered heavy defeats in the recent Melaka, Sarawak and Johor state elections, where it only won one seat in the three state polls. - FMT
