YOURSAY | 'Azhar, are you a speaker or a squeaker?'

YOURSAY | The House speaker is letting Najib ride roughshod over Parliament.

Speaker apologises for giving Najib another week to explain 1MDB debts

'I will explain 1MDB debt issue to Parliament after Johor polls' - Najib

Suspend Najib if no show at Parliament tomorrow - MP

Dr Raman Letchumanan: Azhar Azizan Harun, are you the Dewan Rakyat speaker or a squeaker?

If you truly made a mistake, then you should immediately address it. Recall your decision and summon Pekan MP Najib Abdul Razak to answer in Parliament. After all, Johor is only three hours away.

If Najib can speak so authoritatively in Parliament, then he must have had the facts to do so. Why does he need one week to explain?

former prime minister, a former finance minister, and the current finance minister have also said he is lying to the august House. What more explanation do you need?

The motion is to refer Najib to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee. You gave him a chance to explain, but he gave you the finger instead. Shouldn’t you now approve the motion and refer him to the committee?

Are you going to allow Najib to attend Parliament until he answers? If so, wouldn’t it look ridiculous if Najib attends Parliament but doesn’t answer your question, and will only do so on a date he decides?

You are a stickler in finding every reason to deny any motion, especially from the opposition, saying you follow the Standing Orders to its letter, most of the time using your own interpretation.

You cannot now admit a mistake and not do anything about it. It is not about you, but the highest body in the land.

You were roaring like a tiger having Parliament under your complete control, not even allowing the truth about what the Agong said to be revealed. But now, why are you squeaking like a mouse? Is “Bossku” above the Agong in your book?

Vijay47: That you continue to demean yourself is of no consequence and concern to the public, Azhar, since it is the standard you have consistently displayed from that tragic day when you were undeservingly appointed Dewan Rakyat speaker.

But, to again cower in deference to Najib’s dictates, you have reduced Parliament to a servile status, an act that in any other country would have seen you being impeached.

But alas, we are in Malaysia.

What is even more shocking is that you actually granted Najib a leave of absence for him to indulge in political activity. Of course, this prompts us to wonder which is of greater importance - campaigning for a state election or having a round or two of golf in sunny Singapore?

Thus, what do you think is the value of your apology? And the fact that Najib could haughtily state that he would make due explanation to you and Parliament when he deigns to do so merely exhibits the opinion he holds of both.

Only in Malaysia, folks, only in Malaysia.

OCT: A convicted felon can ignore the speaker’s order to appear in Parliament just because he is campaigning in a state election.

It seems like Najib, a convicted felon, is more powerful than the speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Azhar. It even seems like Najib is now running Parliament according to his schedule, no wonder the dates of his court cases have to suit his schedule too.

The government is giving Najib too much leeway and he is making a mockery of the government, Parliament and the courts. Never in the history of the world did a convicted felon get to dictate his court dates without a reprimand.

How powerful and in control Najib still is? It seems Najib is the de facto No 1 in this country, where nobody dares touch him and everyone accedes to his requests.

MerdekaMerdekaMerdeka: Azhar, where does your holy grail of standing orders provide for such audacious ignorance by an MP to an instruction issued by Parliament?

Now, would you rather cower and punish yourself along with the rest of the august House and wait out this perpetuation? What’s the worst that could happen?

NewbieSC: If the speaker does not suspend Najib for not complying with his letter, then the speaker should be suspended.

Pakatan Harapan should also tear up the MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the government or they will be seen to be complicit with Najib’s antics.

We have had enough of his holier-than-thou attitude and the constant lies and half-truths from this convicted felon.

IndigoToucan1627: Najib seems to be a very lucky man.

First, he does not have to go to jail while waiting for his appeal against his criminal conviction and sentence to be heard at the Court of Appeal.

Then, he does not have to go to jail even though his conviction is upheld by the Court of Appeal while he awaits his appeal to the Federal Court to be heard.

Now, Parliament is made to wait for his explanation for some nonsense he said in Parliament while he goes campaigning in Johor.

Najib is a lucky man indeed. I wonder if his luck will ever run out?

To Our Future: It appears that Najib even dared to mock the courts with all his lame excuses for non-attendance. So, why wouldn’t he do the same to Parliament? - Mkini
