JOHOR POLLS | Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has hailed Pekan MP Najib Abdul Razak as BN's "main campaign manager" after the coalition's success in reclaiming the state.
Close to midnight yesterday, Umno leaders gathered at the party's state headquarters in Larkin, Johor Bahru and held a press conference after unofficial results showed BN's victory in 40 seats, forming a government with a supermajority.
"Even though officially our elections director is Mohamad Hasan, our main campaign manager is Najib," said Zahid, to cheers of "Bossku!" from BN supporters.
"Even though he (Najib) faced relentless attacks, even though he was slandered as high as the mountains, his unwavering spirit remains," said Zahid.
Najib has been on a whirlwind tour across Johor, stumping for BN candidates, particularly from MCA in DAP-held seats where he held major gatherings with supporters and earned at least five compounds.
BN's opponents and critics have been hitting out at Najib, who has been convicted for corruption and a part of Umno's "court cluster" but yet free to campaign and was still accepted by his supporters.

A gift for Johoreans
Zahid described the unofficial results as being beyond BN's expectations and a gift for Johoreans.
He also said he will be submitting Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad's name for Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's consent to be appointed as the state menteri besar.
Zahid also thanked the monarch for consenting to BN'S request to dissolve the state assembly, paving the way for the election and its eventual victory.
Hasni in his speech also credited Najib, quipping that if he is seen as BN's poster boy for the polls, the former premier is of equal stature as BN's "picture boy".
He also thanked Johoreans who voted for political and economic stability under BN, pledging to kick-start implementation of promises under the coalition's "Ikhtiar BN" manifesto.
"InsyaAllah, Ikhtiar BN will be implemented in stages starting from the next state budget.
"Remember, there is no individual or political ideology bigger than Johor Darul Takzim. This is the time for all of us to build a more prosperous Johor," he said.
Others on the main stage to celebrate the victory include Umno deputy president Mohamad, Sembrong Umno chief Hishammuddin Hussein, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and BN component leaders. - Mkini
