Police yet to call up PAS leaders in leak probe, says MP

 

Kuala Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim says the police should focus on who forged the so-called PASLeak documents.

PETALING JAYA: No PAS leaders have been called up by the police so far to assist in an investigation into the documents that were purported to be minutes of a PAS meeting against certain Umno leaders, says a member of the PAS central committee.

Committee member Ahmad Amzad Hashim said that there were no such meetings and discussions as alleged in the documents, dismissing its claims that the party was pushing to get certain court cases involving Umno leaders to be expedited.

“We welcome the opening of an investigation paper by Kuala Lumpur police and we are ready to give evidence at any time,” he was quoted as saying in Kuala Terengganu.

“So far, we have not been informed that any PAS leader has been called in to assist in the investigation,” said Amzad, according to Berita Harian.

Amzad, who is MP for Kuala Terengganu and deputy science minister, urged the police to focus their investigation into the alleged falsification and dissemination of the documents, and said he considered the so-called “PASLeak” to be an attempt to thwart the party’s ummah unity agenda.

The “PASLeak” papers detailed a plot to topple Umno leaders and included a plan to expedite the sentences of Umno’s “court cluster”, namely Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Razak.

The two leaders are either on trial or have been convicted on charges such as criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.

PAS leaders have so far denied the authenticity of the documents.

On Tuesday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said police had begun their investigation into the matter following a police report lodged by Zahid, adding that they would call in the politicians named in the purported leaked minutes. - FMT
