PETALING JAYA: A senior lawyer has questioned the government for granting more time to the task forces investigating the death of late firefighter Adib Mohd Kassim, the Pulau Batu Puteh case and claims made by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas in his memoirs.
“Why were the people not informed of the request for more time by the three task forces before the initial deadline?” said Haniff Khatri Abdulla today after the government said the full reports of the task forces would be ready in August.
Haniff, who is regarded to be associated with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, also questioned the government’s reasons for the delay and asked if the government was confident that the reports by the task forces would be completed by August, or whether there would be a chain of extensions.
Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had said earlier today that the task forces had asked for more time to fine-tune and translate some of the reports that were prepared in English.
They had initially been given six months to work on the three cases since their establishment in December and had reported their findings to the Cabinet after three months of research, he said. - FMT
